The Auckland Sport Climbing Club is planning a Competition Skills Workshop the Sunday before the National Climbing Competition which will be held in Rotorua the following weekend. This workshop will be facilitated by Carmilla Ansin (CNZ Youth Team Head Coach) and Matt Cloonan (ASC Head Coach) will also be in attendance. We may have another facilitator depending on the numbers.
The workshop will help prepare athletes to cope better with the competition environment by covering the following topics:
- What to remember / bring for days at competitions
- When and what to eat
- Reading the timetable and climbing order (start lists) and planning to warm up at the right time
- Knowing who the key officials are and who to go to for what
- Key rules to understand that commonly catch climbers out
- Dos and don’ts for isolation
- Strategies for qualifying climbs vs finals
- Mental strategies for reading the climbs
- Keeping focused on the time throughout the day
- Supporting other team members
Workshop details:
- Sunday 13th September from 1:00 until 3:00pm (please be punctual)
- Extreme Edge Panmure
- Cost is $30 per person
- Open to all ASC club members who wish to attend (workshop limited to 15 places)
